Hearing Test

A hearing test provides a measurement of the sensitivity of a person's hearing across the full range of speech. The test will measure the quietest sound that can be heard several points across the speech range this hearing test is termed an audiogram. A hearing test provides an evaluation of the sensitivity of a person's sense of hearing and is most often performed by an audiologist using an audiometer. An audiometer is used to determine a person's hearing sensitivity at different frequencies. There are other hearing tests as well, e.g., Weber test and Rinne test.

  • Audiometry
  • Tympanometry/Impedance
  • OAE
  • BERA

Sound is measured in two key ways: volume or level measured in decibels (dB) and pitch or frequency (whether it's high or low) measured in hertz (Hz)

Hearing loss comes with aging but it can affect anyone. Hearing loss is increasing due to Noise pollution and an unhealthy lifestyle. You can have hearing loss if

  • You often ask people to repeat themselves
  • Friends or family say you that you turn the tv or radio up too loud
  • You struggle to understand speech, especially in noisy environments
  • You have difficulty hearing people on the phone and have to turn the speaker/microphone of the cell phone on during the conversation
  • If you experience any of the above - you should get your hearing test done today.

Hearing tests are very easy and are not painful at all. One way to test for hearing loss is through the use of audiometry. An audiometry exam tests how well your hearing functions. It tests both the intensity and the tone of sounds, balance issues, and other issues related to the function of the inner ear. These tests can be done easily at our Ahmedabad clinic- Nityant Hearing care by certified audiologists who are specialized in diagnosing and treating hearing loss. Audiometry: Human ear is made up of there parts-the outer ear, the middle ear, and the inner ear. Audiometry test are normal hearing test which is done to find out hearing loss type and intensity across all the frequencies. Audiometry is an objective test of inner-ear function.
Tympanometry/Impedance: Tympanometry is an acoustic evaluation used to evaluate the condition of the middle ear eardrum (tympanic membrane) and the conduction bones by creating variations of air pressure in the ear canal. Tympanometry is an objective test of middle-ear function.
OAE: The OAE test is used to find out how well inner ear, or cochlea, works. It measures otoacoustic emissions, or OAEs. These are sounds given off by the inner ear when responding to a sound. There are hair cells in the inner ear that respond to sound by vibrating. The vibration produces a very quiet sound that echoes back into the middle ear. This sound is the OAE that is measured.
BERA: Brain Stem Evoked Response Audiometry test in short form is called BERA. It is an objective test that gives the approximate average hearing threshold level of the pateint. It is a very reliable test to objectively evaluate the hearing threshold of an adult or child across all frequencies except for the low frequencies. The BERA test can automatically detect the patients hearing threshold i.e., how much the patient is hearing and is hence very useful to detect the hearing status in small children and in difficult to test adults. The BERA test is also done to identify the site of lesion i.e., the anatomical region in the brain where there is a damage in the auditory pathway inside the brain in patients suffering from vertigo / deafness / tinnitus.
